14 Day Mountain trek in the French Alps
The Meije2Med is a 200km+ trek through the French Alps. Starting at Le Chazelet-La Grave in the Ecrins national park and heading south through the Cerces, Queyras and Mercantour regional parks. The route follows a network of grande randonnee (GR) footpaths leading from the mythical mountain La Meije (3983m), taking in some of the Alps most stunning and varied scenery to arrive at the Promenade des Anglais, Nice on the azure Mediterranean coast.
On arrival in the Alps there will be a day acclimatising in Le Chazelet and a warm up walk under the imposing north face of La Meije. Then the 12 day trek commences - crossing high passes and cols (up to 2750m) winding a stunning route south along the high crest of the Alps. Accommodation is in mountain huts and gites so rucksacks will be light - just a change of clothes, light waterproofs, cameras and lunch foods.
This is a strenuous trek with many days covering over 20km with 1300m ascents but is open to all fit and adventurous walkers. However, the group size will be small (4-6 persons).
